How curbside debris pickup works after a disaster.

Who to contact about debris pickup

Omni Construction removes disaster debris under contract to local, state and federal agencies. Pickup schedules, eligible areas and rules are set by your city, parish or county. For questions about when debris will be picked up on your street, contact your local government or emergency management office first.

General curbside tips

Always follow your local government’s instructions. Common guidance after a disaster:

  • Place debris at the curb, between the sidewalk and the street, without blocking the road, drains, fire hydrants or mailboxes.
  • Keep piles away from trees, utility poles, meters and power lines so equipment can pick them up safely.
  • Separate debris into piles: vegetative (branches, logs, leaves), construction and demolition (drywall, lumber, carpet, furniture), appliances and white goods, electronics, and household hazardous waste (paint, oils, chemicals, batteries).
  • Do not bag vegetative debris unless your community asks you to.
  • Do not put debris on vacant lots or on property you don’t own.
